“A Fish in Water”: A Story from Taiwan

For the last 11 years Father Patrik has been serving in Taiwan where Catholics make up just 1% of the population. He says, āFrom the missionary perspective, there is a lot to do.ā In his journey towards the priesthood, he studied philosophy in Rome where he met two sisters from mainland China ā sparking a desire in him for the Chinese people. Father Patrik eventually joined the Divine Word Missionaries and seized an opportunity to take part in an overseas training program in Taiwan. “God Opens a Window”: A Story from Canada

Five feet of fresh snow cover the Northern Canadian town of Sault Ste. Marie, blanketing St. Veronicaās Church in a Christmas Card-worthy outline. But for Joanne, Christmas here has been less than picturesque, filled with the painful reminder of her motherās death.
In 2015, two days after Christmas, Joanneās 65-year-old mother, Susan, died suddenly, leaving Joanne without close family nearby as she raised her young daughter, Sophie as a single mom. Joanneās mother was a devout Catholic and had made sure her children were baptized and received their sacraments but following momās death Joanne found it difficult to feel anything but anger at God. She recalls being filled with despair and grief, telling God āI needed her,ā āit’s not fair,ā and āyou can just leave me alone.ā
Then two years ago, again at Christmastime, something new was in store for Joanne.

“A Little Child Will Lead Them”: A Story from the USA

Melissa and Cody Hedquist love their parish. They almost gush as they repeatedly explain āthe way they do it at St. Patrickās isā¦ā relating their amazement at the difference they have found there.
St. Patrickās Parish in Yorkville, Illinois, has been committed to parish renewal since its Pastor, Father Matt, attended the DRā16 Conference in Halifax. He got into coaching with Divine Renovation, formed a Senior Leadership Team, started Alpha and the trajectory of the parish changed towards becoming missional. Another big shift happened three years ago when, as part of their focus on the primacy of evangelization, St. Patrickās hired a Director of Childrenās Ministry. The new hire, Samantha, brought in a focus on family formation to childrenās faith education and the fruit has been multiplying ever since.
For the Hedquist family, this change was tangible and deeply personal.
